If you are detained for immigration reasons: what happens next?
Within 48 hours (or as soon as possible afterwards) after detained by Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), a member of the IRB Immigration Division must review the reasons for your detention at an independent hearing called a detention review. You and your counsel if have will appear at the hearing and the member will decide whether you will be released or remain in deten¬tion. If you are ordered to remain in detention, a second review will be held after 7 days, and if you are still ordered to be detained, the reasons for your detention will be reviewed every 30 days thereafter. Note: You have the right to request an early detention review if you have new information
